Teeth cleaning is part of oral hygiene and involves the removal of dental plaque from teeth with the intention of preventing cavities, gingivitis, and periodontal disease. People routinely clean their own teeth by brushing and flossing but a dental hygienists can remove hardened deposits (tartar) not removed by at home cleaning.

Orthodontic problems occur when the teeth or jaws do not fit together properly. Orthodontic treatment is indicated in order to restore function, preserve dental health, facilitate speech, protect teeth from trauma, and improve esthetics.
The invisalign system consists of doctor-prescribed, custom, thin, clear plastic removable orthodontic appliances (aligners) that gently move the patients teeth in small increments and may also position the mandible forward fro their original state.
This is a common appliance used for patients who have a posterior crossbite. It is cemented on the upper teeth and as the appliance widens, the crossbite is corrected. Patients will usually activate the appliance for 2-4 weeks, but it must remain in the mouth for 6-9 months. Braces are often put on during this time.
Also referred to as: Laughing gas. It is a very safe gas/oxygen mixture which is inhaled by a mask on the nose and it takes effect after five to ten minutes. Nitrous oxide in the dental office is never used as a general anesthetic, it does not put patient to sleep. For this reason local anesthetic (freezing) is still necessary, but much more comfortable to receive.

Additionally, parents are given preventative home care information (brushing/flossing/fluorides), a caries risk assessment, information on finger, thumb, and pacifier habits, advice on preventing injuries to the mouth and teeth of children, diet counseling, and information on growth and development. Children should be seen 6 months after their first tooth is through and the first exam is free.
